Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation is one of the most exciting and fastest growing fields in cardiothoracic medicine and nursing. Incredible advancements in the use of ECMO have allowed previously improbable solutions to complex patient conditions to become the norm. The purpose of this class is to educate, enhance, and empower critical care nurses, physical therapist, physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and all healthcare workers, in their understanding and treatment of patients that require a device that helps treat advanced heart failure and/or respiratory failure. This interdisciplinary eight hour seminar is designed to discuss the latest ELSO guidelines, therapeutic approaches, recent trends, pathophysiology, patient selection, and treatment options of cardiac and respiratory failure through the use of ECMO. Additionally, this seminar will feature didactic comprehensive lessons and breakout sessions that are intended to deliver full immersive experiences in a realistic clinical setting.
