DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\n\nThree-dimensional virtual planning improves
the outcomes of orthognathic surgery\, but several barriers have prevented
full implementation. Successful implementation requires (1) an understand
ing of computer tomography\, image processing\, and three-dimensional geom
etry\,(2) the use well-tested software and planning protocols\, and (3) co
st-control. In this seminar\, attendees will learn the fundamentals of thr
ee-dimensional medical imaging\, how to diagnose facial deformities using
advanced morphometric tools\, and how to efficiently simulate treatment in
a 3D virtual environment. Additionally\, attendees will learn the latest
treatment planning protocols and how to reduce treatment cost. Nuances ass
ociated with preparation and planning for orthognathic surgery such as sur
gery first options\, case set up with aligners\, updates on the surgical t
reatments of obstructive sleep apnea\, complications and their managements
 \, will be discussed.\n\n \n\nTarget Audience\n\nThe target audience for t
his medical event is Oral and maxillofacial surgeons\, orthodontists\, pla
 stic surgeons\, otolaryngologists\, residents/fellows\,\nresearchers\, nur
ses\, and technicians involved with or interested in oral and maxillofacia
 l surgery.\n\n \n\nLearning Objectives\n\nUpon completion of this course\,
the participants should be able to:\n\nDescribe the fundamentals of three
-dimensional imaging and their predictability Understand the preoperative
planning and preparation for orthognathic surgery using different methodsB
e able to recognize and manage surgical and cosmetic complications associa
 ted with orthognathic surgery.
