Advances in modern medicine extend the human lifespan but do not prevent age-related diseases, leading to a decline in quality of life. Using naturally aged mice, we study the mechanisms that lead to cardiac aging. This seminar will explore the phenotypic changes in cellular and organ levels that occur with aging and explain how inflammation and altered extracellular matrix can, directly and indirectly, affect diastolic function. The possible mechanistic targets to improve cardiac function in aging and surprising sex differences that may explain the differences in responses to experimental treatments in animal models will be discussed.
Lunch provided for the first 35 attendees
