The Future of Medicine in the Era of AI: Will Doctors Become Obsolete?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming health care at an exponential pace, from diagnostic algorithms to immersive medical extended reality. In this keynote, Brennan Spiegel, MD, MSHS, FACG, AGAF, explores how AI, AR and VR are converging to support patient care and reshape clinical practice. Drawing on examples from his ab and breakthroughs worldwide, he highlights AI’s extraordinary capabilities—and its limitations. AI cannot replicate human empathy, perform nuanced physical exams, or always recognize subtle clinical clues that skilled physicians detect. Spiegel shares real-world cases where AI missed what human judgment caught, underscoring the need for partnership, not replacement. He concludes that while AI will not replace doctors, physicians who embrace AI will replace those who do not—ushering in a future of blended intelligence, where human insight and machine precision work hand in hand to deliver more humanistic, effective care.
