"Arts in Health Care" is a half-day symposium exploring the applications of music and art within the health care settings and the fields of creative arts therapy and arts integration.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate the practices of music medicine, music therapy, and music enrichment when reading peer reviewed literature, when authoring research and literature, and when requesting services for patients, medical staff, or the hospital environment.  
  • Improve competence and effectiveness in placing referrals and prioritizing available resources for music in health care services.
  • Analyze how music can activate regions of the brain, influence memory, emotion regulation, arousal, and physiological responses.
  • Appraisal of the various uses of music and research related to music in the medical setting for clinical and experiential purposes and review the scope of practice for each.
  • Discover opportunities to collaborate in future research, clinical practice, and experiential encounters in music medicine, music therapy in the healthcare setting.
