The Office of Graduate Studies and Trainee Affairs (OGSTA) is proud to host National Postdoc Appreciation Week at the Houston Methodist Academic Institute.
Help us recognize the unwavering commitment of our postdoctoral community. These exceptional individuals are not just students of science; they are educators and role models helping to shape the future of research and medicine. To celebrate our postdocs, we’ve created a week full of personal and professional development opportunities. Attendees can choose to register for any of the following events:
Monday, Sept. 16: Kickoff Networking Breakfast

Meet and greet with fellow Postdoc colleagues to build one of your most powerful resources, a diverse professional network.
Monday, Sept. 16: Interviewing Workshop
12pm – 1pm | R2 Cockrell Boardroom (R2-311)
Whether it’s a residency program or your next big career move, brush up on the interpersonal skills that help you bring your best self to the interview.
Tuesday, Sept. 17: Opening the Doors of Opportunity w/ Melanie Sinche, PhD
12pm – 1pm | UT McGovern Med School, 6431 Fannin, Lecture Hall 2.006
Dr. Melanie Sinche, renowned postdoc advocate and author of Next Gen PhD, will share her insights with our TMC postdoc community, exploring the wide range of career options available for PhDs in science. This special event is co-sponsored by OGSTA, UTHealth Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Wednesday, Sept. 18: Professional Headshots for Postdocs
10am – 12pm | RI 2nd Floor Pre-Function Area
Give your profiles a new, more professional look with a new headshot. Session is available for postdocs only and is first come, first served.
Thursday, Sept. 19: NPAW Luncheon & Awards Ceremony
12pm – 1pm | Walter Tower – Columbia Room (WT01-3018)
Come together for a special luncheon and remarks from HMAI leadership as we celebrate our incredible postdocs. The winners of the 2024 NPAW Awards will also be announced, with categories including High Impact Scientific Paper, Excellence in Mentoring, Outstanding Grant Recipient, and Outstanding Postdoc of the Year.
