DEMOCRATIZING HEALTH CARE: A 12-YEAR JOURNEY WITH PROJECT ECHO IN LATIN AMERICA.

From a single educational model to a regional movement, Project ECHO has reshaped how healthcare knowledge can be shared in the world and across Latin America. This lecture will explain the main characteristics of Project ECHO and will explore the development of ECHO networks in Uruguay and the region over the past 12 years, highlighting the role of collaborative learning, telementoring, and communities of practice in expanding access to specialized expertise. The presentation will also reflect on the broader implications of democratizing medical knowledge in resource-variable settings.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

The epidemic of liver disease has become increasingly more common and poses complex problems regarding diagnosis and management. There are recent advances in the diagnosis and management of patients with liver disease. This CE activity has been designed to educate attendees about new developments in hepatology, and new approaches to management of liver diseases that can be readily integrated into their daily practice. A group of national experts, including several renowned guest faculty, will present new findings in a clinical context that will be beneficial in the multidisciplinary management of unique and complex liver disorders.

Liver diseases have become more prevalent and primary care healthcare professionals and practitioners face challenges in prompt recognition, diagnosis and management. The burden of liver ailments is further expected to increase.

The goal of this meeting is to provide an overview of the most common liver diseases seen in the community and to bridge the learning gap between primary care and the latest advances and developments in the field of hepatology.
